Jarrod Camper Smith Memorial Scholarship

The Scholarship was created in 1999 in honor of our dear friend, Jarrod Camper Smith, who passed away at age 17 following an accident while on Spring Break.  Jarrod was a fun, energetic person with a larger than life personality.  The Scholarship has been established to remember Jarrod and his spirit by assisting an outstanding high school senior to continue their formal education.

Jarrod Smith FC 1998Jarrod played travel soccer for the BEACH FC STORM and was a starting defensive back and 1998 All Beach District Honorable Mention honoree for First Colonial High School, Virginia Beach, Virginia.  On the soccer pitch, we saw Jarrod push himself to be the best marking back, always desiring to be paired against the opposing team’s strongest scoring threat.  Jarrod stood out, on and off the soccer pitch, as a fierce competitor, motivator and leader.

Jarrod lived as he played-- full of enthusiasm.  This spirit was seen in his ever-present smile, his ability to make us laugh and his love of his family.  His smile and outgoing personality were always uplifting to his family, teammates and friends.  With his sense of humor and zest for life, Jarrod had the ability to connect with anyone, especially children.

In the short time Jarrod spent with us, he had a profound effect on family and friends.  Jarrod is greatly missed by all who knew him.
